Warm Up With a Hot Cup of French Quarter Coffee
When the weather gets chillier, steaming hot coffee flows from French Quarter coffee shops. Whether it’s a kick of espresso, a warm latte, or hot chocolate you’re after, these local joints can fulfill your fix for a delicious cup of joe.
Café du Monde (800 Decatur St)
Arguably the most famous coffee shop in the city, Café du Monde is a New Orleans tradition that dates back to 1862. The original location at the French Market in the French Quarter is still open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, closing only on Christmas Day, and serves up dark roasted coffee, black and au lait. Plus, you won’t be able to resist ordering a round of hot, powdery beignets to go along with your coffee.
CC’s Coffee House (941 Royal St)
CC’s Coffee House is nestled on the Royal St thoroughfare, making it a perfect coffee stop as you peruse the French Quarter shops. CC’s gets in the spirit of the holidays with its Frosted Gingerbread, Peppermint Bark, Pumpkin Pie, and Eggnog-flavored lattes, and even its famous frozen Mochasippi is available in the Pumpkin Pie blend. The shop features a round of coffeehouse classics, like espresso and fresh brews, as well as smoothies and iced coffee drinks.
Cafe Envie & Espresso Bar (1241 Decatur St / 308 Decatur St)
The original Café Envie stands at the far end of the French Quarter where Decatur almost meets Esplanade Ave, the divider between the French Quarter and Marigny neighborhoods. It’s a convenient stop if you’re exploring that end of the Quarter and is just steps from the French Market. Just last month, Envie opened a new location near the other end of Decatur, where it continues to sell its famous espressos and a large menu of breakfast foods and paninis.
Café Beignet (334 Royal St / 311 Bourbon St)
Café du Monde isn’t the only beignet game in town, and Café Beignet offers two French Quarter locations to cater to people meandering down both Royal and Bourbon streets. In addition to steaming mugs of coffee, cappuccinos, espresso and hot chocolate—and many iced versions of the same—Café Beignet provides a full breakfast menu and local Cajun favorites like red beans and rice and jambalaya.
Arrow Café (628 N Rampart St)
Arrow Café is a newer addition to the French Quarter, an espresso bar situated directly across from Armstrong Park that opened last year. The café specializes in Four Barrel Coffee out of San Francisco and offers an array of sweets, sodas, snacks, and local handmade goods to boot.
