Carnival Season In Full Swing

January 13 2015 | News

The sweet smell of king cakes fills the New Orleans air. Colorful floats line the streets throwing beautiful beads and tasty treats (MoonPies). It means Carnival is in full swing!

It’s a unique and exciting time in our city. Folks come together in celebration culminating in a grand celebration on Mardi Gras (French for Fat Tuesday). It’s a time to eat, drink, and be merry before the rigorous fasting during Lent.

This year, Fat Tuesday is February 17, but the parades and celebrations have already begun. The season kicked off on Epiphany (January 6) with Joan of Arc parading through the French Quarter on foot in honor of the heroin’s birthday.  That same night the Phunny Phorty Phellows took their inaugural, satirical ride on the St. Charles Streetcar from Carrollton Station to Canal Street and back. From the super Krewe parade routes to French Quarter walking parades, staying in the French Quarter offers easy access to parade routes throughout the city and a fun and exciting nightlife.

There’s still time to book your stay, but you need to hurry.
