Walk to the Creole Tomato Fest this weekend

June 6 2014 | News

When we say that there is always something happening in the French Quarter, we’re not kidding. This weekend, it’s the 28th Annual Creole Tomato Fest!

Creole Tomatoes are an important part of the food culture here in New Orleans. They aren’t like regular tomatoes; they grow in south Louisiana’s rich soil and subtropical climate, and they are delicious. Because of this bold flavor, they are the preferred tomatoes in many classic local dishes, like Shrimp Creole or dressing for your po-boy.

If you’re staying at Hotel Provincial this weekend, then you are in a great place for this!  Our hotel is just a short walk to the French Market, where the festival is taking place. From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, festival-goers can listen to live music, watch cooking demonstrations by local chefs, and eat great Creole Tomato based foods from all of the restaurants that will have booths set up.

Two stages will be set up for some of our favorite local bands to play on both days. The first stage is the Abita Beer Stage, which will be near Barracks Street, alongside the French Market. The second stage is called the Dutch Alley Pavilion Stage, and will be set up at St. Philip and Decatur Streets.

If you love to cook, then you’ll be able to pick up some great tips from the cooking demonstrations. If you don’t like to cook, it’s still fun to watch these master chefs create the most creative dishes from Creole Tomatoes. For example, we hear that some chefs will be making Creole Tomato Cupcakes and Creole Tomato Jam this year!

When it comes down to it though, the highlight is always the food.  So many great restaurants are setting up booths to serve Creole Tomato based dishes. It’s the perfect time to sample food from all of these great places across the city.  It’s a foodie’s dream!

Again, if you’re staying with us this weekend, then you have it made. You’ll be able to walk around the festival, come back to your hotel room for a break or to drop off shopping bags, then go back again whenever you’re ready.

If you haven’t made a reservation with us for this weekend, then book a room online or give us a call at (504) 581-4995. We’d love to set you up!
